Camp Smalltalk 2
Camp Smalltalk 1:
Eliot Miranda said that Cincom has agreed to open-source the XML/XSL framework in VisualWorks 5i. This is available unter the ParcPlace Public License, derived directly from the Mozilla license version 1.1. Find it on the VisualWorks Wiki at wiki.cs.uiuc.edu/VisualWorks/VisualWorks+XML+Framework.
A short report on the VW 5i XML Parser
Sun and a group of 7 XML companies have closed the review on the JSR-000031 XML Data Binding Specification as of 23 Aug 1999. See: java.sun.com/aboutJava/communityprocess/jsr/jsr_031_xmld.html
SOAP is the Simple Object Access Protocol, basically a way to use XML and HTTP to access objects over the internet. Microsoft is pushing it. See Smalltalk Web Services for further information.
Also, see LDO and other lightweight protocols that use XML.
The porting journal on the VisualWorks Wiki is woefully obsolete, now that we're post CSt2. The Squeak port has made a fair bit of progress (to the point of actually parsing well-formed documents). I'm not going to be home until Sunday, when I will try to package up and post the to-whatever-degree-it-is-working code :)
