Concept: Two year old project (summer 2001 and summer 2002) that was developed from exploration of island Vis, which was chosen to be location for international meeting of students of architecture EASA 2002 SENSES. First organized in 2001 as an experiment for managing resources and evaluating capacities, after the event in 2002 has outgrown in long-term international project. Program basis is of the project is education and production through different workshops that cover fields from multimedia and new technologies, architecture, music, theater, visual arts... Project OTOKULTIVATOR is more than academic input from EASA - Croatia, new technologies from Mi2 and urban youth culture from URK, it is also about the new qualities introduced in creative intertwining of these fields and their attempt to answer the complex issues concerning tourism and life and development in island - isolated environment. The goal of the project is to establish multimedia and multidisciplinary residential center in ex-military base of Samogor on island Vis, as a location that would be at disposal to the civic and independent cultural initiatives for production of their work. Non-consumerist and ecological "nature-safe" tourism is the essence of the project that should help revitalize the island and preserve it's unique advantages of isolation and untouched nature.

Facts: In 2002 project gathered over 800 people in one month in ex-military base and refuge camp Samogor in island of Vis. In first part 300 Croatian participants stayed for 10 days to take part in 15 different workshops from juggling, dance, ethno music and drumming to creative writing, art, design and multimedia software education... Second part was international event EASA 2002 SENSES as 22nd gathering of European Architecture Students Association, that featured 26 workshops and over 400 architects (33 countries), either students or their professors and experts from other related fields. These workshops were related to use of abanded facilities, building on islands, but were also practical activities as cleaning and marking of roads and beaches, reactivating the old facilities and doing public presentations in cities of Vis and Komiza. Some of tham went so far as to rebild the old house in Dragodidu that was set-up in "suhozid" (dry-wall, exclusivly stone structure without use of concrete) as it was done 200 years ago. International experts included Vedran Mimica - Course director in Berlage Institute in Rotterdam, Stefano Boeri - professor of Berlage Institute in Rotterdamu, Brett Steele - professor on AA in Londonu, Idis Turato, Pero Puljiz, Tadej Glažar and others. Event was documented and mediated through activities of media lab, with 12 people in photo/video and audio material that was featured on local radio Nautic and web http://www.otokultivator.org.
