DEPRICATED

a. How does this project relate to your personal artistic vision, your creative or professional goals and /or to your organization’s mission? Why do you want to work in this country, and why at this time?

Project is constituted as collaborative international production, presentation and research in the field of streaming media practices and aesthetics. It is very much relating to the previous work of both Natalie Jeremijenko and Wolfgang Staehle. With this project all parties will get a chance to enjoy a unique experience of doing pioneering work in this field away from the pressure of "NY" or "global" media art scene. On the curatorial side Zeljko Blace is engaging in this project as a part of his research on hybridization of net media, which is a part of his research on Kunst Hochschule fur Medien in Cologne. The whole project will be produced in the larger framework of tactical media event Next5Minutes which is organised by Multimedia Institute in Zagreb with co-operation with Art Workshop Lazareti in Dubrovnik.

This project is unique exporation of NY artists in the local sitaution of the city of Dubrovnik and Republic of Croatia, at the moment when Croatian media art scene is openning and growing to face the international audience. This will also be a time of Croatian N5M4 TML which will gather a very diverse and interesting audience from all over Croatia... audience intereseted in new media production. Work produce at this occasion will be therefore learning experiance for both US and Croatian partners.

b. Describe your overseas partner’s role in the proposed project. How will the project benefit that individual or organization? How will the project benefit audiences overseas or in the US?

Multimedia Institute and Art Workshop Lazareti will create context for producing this new work by pre-event promotion in the media and by organising Next5Minutes Temporaray Media Lab. Thay will also make sure that technical resourcers are available and that project engages local artists and local audience. Both have worked on media art events, but never together and never on this scale.

Project will develop into strong refrence point for further research and production as technical basis gets established and both parties get a chance to evaluate what is the possibility of local input in further development of this field. We also hope to encorage new audience (especially technical one) to get interested in media/technology art and enrich cultural sector.

As the project goal is quite unique in it's direction, we hope to capture the attention of professionals in this field and hopefully recive appropriate feedback on work.

c. Working in societies in transition can present unique logistical and cross-cultural challenges. How will you deal with them? Please include information on how you will address language differences. What prior experience, if any, do you have in Central and Eastern Europe?

Both artists have showned exstensive interest in meeting cross-cultural challanges and will carefully approach local community. Due to a specific positioning of Dubrovnik as touristic destination and the fact that most inhabitatnts speek at least one foreign language, there should be no problems in terms of communication. Both artists have visited and exhibited in Central and Eastern Europe, including neighboring Slovenia.

d. What resources are necessary to your work in the host country, and how will you gain access to them?

Due to a need for accessing high bandwith networks organisers will try to engage local academic and commercial Interenet service providers in the City of Dubrovnik. There is also a big need for presentation equiptment, for this reason organisers have decided to split the costs and try to provide equiptment from various sources (possible sponsorship, renting, borrowing from other organisations and even buying refurbished equiptment).

e. Please describe any planned activities related to the project that involve other artists and audiences abroad and/or at home.

Project will be presented in Zagreb and Dubrovnik in Croatia during N5M TML. It will also be presented in NYC in US, Cologne (KHM) in Germany and Amsterdam (N5M festival) in Nederlands.

During the production period artists will collaborate with local young artists and will give a short workshop on streaming technologies to those who show interest to get engaged in the production of their own work. Both will also do an educational presentation and will discus tactical usage of streaming media in the coarse of Next5Minutes TML in Dubrovnik, which will feature Croatian and regional media activists as well as some of the international guests. Project will be also accessible to the on-line audience and on the day of internet launch artists will also spend some time in interactive CHAT in on-line environment.
