Notes from BlenderConf2003
A compilation of notes made during 3 days of conference.
_Issues:
- On-Line Blender/Web Plugin future?
- Plugin needs to be registered, checked and certified (costs money with closed source browsers...takes time with FLOSS browsers)
- Blender as plugin media players?
- One thing I remembered that might help Blender Plugin developt is support from Real Networks Grant: www.helixcommunity.org/2003/grants/#apply
- Render deamon (in CD-Bootable Linux Distros)?
- Status of playstation export?
- Game engine prospects? o Putting back old 2.04 Game Engine ("NG") while the more complex one ("Solid") will be developted separatly as plugin with bugs being fixed (cca. 250 bugs)
_Concepts and Ideas:
- Generative media support in future Blender (how to include support for fuzzy logic and variability into Blender file formats) o since blender uses fixed values exclusivly (like mesh: position, scale rotation) it would be important to update file format to be able to include variables that would enable change of the values dinamicly... most likely with python. Possible applications: blender files that render graphics differently on time of the day, games that take into account speed of user responsivnes to modify background sound/graphics, on-line interfaces for Blender plugin that ajusts content depending on the IP adress from which request was sent. One really fantastic application of Generative media in the sound field is Koan Pro of www.sseyo.com/ for scoring Generative Music.
- drasticly ofFOCUS - "SONYFING BLENDER" and move it more from sample playing to sound generating software (important for plugin/game-engine, but also for integration of features)...This can be developted by using external cross-platform and GNU tools like CSound or PD
- under Blended Midi project
- Using Blender of positioning sound for multichanell situations (artistic installations, theaters...)...might be really interesting to develop with academic community
- After suggesting use of Wiki for documentation long time ago (did anyone read this) some things are changing in this direction. Ton has after a discussion (on development process and users-programmers communication on second day of conf) decided to invest some time in researching how to use wiki to help these processes! I promised to provide a plan on how to develop/manage/organise Wiki part of web. Most obvious application is to move brainstorming activity from bloated lists to Wiki!
- Setting up repositories of not only textures and models, but also of PYTHON SCRIPTS (that can be than collaborativly maintained and tested for quality proofing)...
- SMIL open standard for EDL edit decision list would prepair Blender for multi screens/windows output and also would produce a first crossplatform SMIL authoring tool!
Idea for our development in TamTam:
- server side Blender rendering site-map + statistics + .blend file for plugin navigation in TamTam
