Generative media is vague concept that is used to describe media content which is organised as a non-fixed score reproducable with more or less variations.
It introduces new quality of consuming media which is different (possibly in-between) from live performance experiance (allways very and is highly inpredictable) and that of recorded/sampled media (which is fixed unless media/reproduction system introduces glitches). Depeanding on choices made by author and "generative" capabilities of system of reproduction content can very drasticly or minimally on each reproduction.
Concepts:
- generative music (already developted through Koan System), can vary parameters like volume, pitch, different effects within fuzzy parameters instructed by author.
- generative 3D models or spaces could vary their otherwise fixed coordinates in 3D space to reproduce everchanging shapes
- generative video system could compose layers of prerendered video, bitmaped graphics or vector images on the fly
Examples of creative use: - computer games that look more complex and everchanging
- A/V media that can suprise listener/viewer
- interfaces that dynamicly change based on environmental input or context
- network media which adapats based on bandwith, geographical location, time of day/season.
