Free Software can be distinguished from commodities and simple hobbies. The resounding success of Free Software on the one hand is based on the individual self-unfolding of the developers, which builds the central motor for the rapid development. On the other hand the massive availability of digital copies and following that the Internet makes Free Software possible.

This self-unfolding points to a new type of development of the productive forces in the ending capitalism having the potential to revolutionize the whole society and to transform it into a new formation - the GPL society. For that to happen an expansion of the principles of the development of Free Software to other goods is on the agenda.

It's obvious to expand the idea to other digitizable information products. However, there are already attempts trying to transfer the principles of the development of Free Software to material goods.

These first steps, which meet a disposition in capitalist production itself, show, how the whole productive base of the society may be transformed to a new, Free form. Free Software ultimately is the mature germ form, which for the first time since long ago envisions the emancipative overcoming of capitalism based on the state of the art of technology.

Although in todays state of affairs a prognosis is not possible it is allowed to speculate over the utopian elements of such a GPL society.

Besides possibilities to support the Free Software movement, consciousness can be raised and we can think further together. Last but not least it is possible to create Free Projects which are committed to the guiding ideas of Free Software.
