BRIEFLY ABOUT MULTIMEDIA INSTITUTE

Multimedia Institute is NGO which is active in the fields
of technology, culture and media while engaging in
social issues and critical theory which makes our position
very reflective to mainstream perception of these fields.

So far we have worked on a number of projects which have
been recognised as innovative and successfull approaches
to the problems NGOs and civil society in Croatia are facing.

Our most well known project is oppening net culture center
"mama" in Preradoviceva 18. as a first public space that managed
to gather youth (urban culture) with art/theory scene, while
even forming a new community of people who are primarly interested
in new media culture, from digital arts and cyber theory to
tactical media).

In these terms we managed to be quite succesfull in working with
some of the most prominent organisations/individuals in the field.

INFO to our RELATIONS to DUTCH NEW MEDIA SCENE

In late 1999. we have made a presentation at first
international streaming media festival NET.CONGESTION in Amsterdam, where we established contacts and started a few projects with Dutch organisations that are globally most promminent in the field.
These are V2_Institute for Unnstable Media from Roterdam and
DeBalie cultural center in Amsterdam.
We have made contacts with STEIM and The WAG as well.
Our current focus in socially engaging media and technologies moved our focus to working with V2 and DeBalie at this stage.

September 2001. we have organised "ASU2", a gathering of
over 60 international non-profit networkers from fields of web art,
independent media and even hackers Linux community.
At the event which happened in Labin (Istria) we had a number of
Dutch representatives (which is due to well known maturity of the
New Media Culture scene in Netherlands).
- Eric Kluitenberg, media program manager from DeBalie
- Nat Muller, projects manager from V2
- Walter Van Der Crujisen, freelance curator/artist/organiser
- Patrice Riemens, from The WAAG
- ASCII Linux group from Amsterdams
After the event, Eric Kluitenber and Walter Van Der Crujisen presented their work and briefly introduced Virtual Platform association (V2, De WAAG De Balie, Steim, Dutch Design Institute, Montevideo...) to the local audience and representative of Ministry of Culture.

A major future collaboration is taking part in editorial
board of "Next 5 Minutes" where Multimedia Institute was invited by Dutch organisers.

- WVDC - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
As the Multimedia Institute, we would like to work with WVDC
to create a regional network of media arts and culture
organisations, also would like to host him as an artist
and member of our team within several activities.
In this project, the focus is on three different aspects.
First we want to create a knowledge base of productions and
research made in the field of New Media Culture.
Secondly, we want to realise a platform for arts and technology
in the public domain, through exhibition, discussion,
paper publication, website etc.
Thirdly we want to establish a sustainable regional network
of creative producers of arts and media, their organisations
and their audience.
The main long-term goal of the project is an independent,
rich media channel across the region which will be programmed
and produced online, while promoting NGO and cultural sector.
This project is planned for three years with partners in Ljubljana,
Novi Sad and Sarajevo. For this project we would investigate
different sources of funding including Matra program
(which should be prepaired during WVDC residency).

His second project is more of an art work in progress:
a database that streams interactive video. The result is an
infinite video channel, which program allways changes when
it is being used. We would like to present his art project
at the end of his residency at the Multimedia Institute.

The third project where we have asked him to contribute is
co-organizing our conference on media culture, first week of May.
More specific, he will realise with us a web site and interface solution for streaming content in SMIL technology and will do a
2 day workshop on this to young new media artists and designers.
He will also present/moderate at the conference in section on digital arts.

Enclosed is a short text he wrote for an upcoming catalog as part of the 'Cibervision' conference held at the University of Madrid, Spain next March.

Costs of WVDC's residency to be covered by Dutch Embassy
