RECENT and ON-GOING ACTIVITIES (in the field of new media arts/culture): • New media culture week - “CRITICAL UPGRADE” (1-7May 2002) organized by Multimedia Institute and Goethe Institute Zagreb, is the first big event in Croatia that tried to connect digital arts and electronic music with critical theory and media activism. The concept was divided in 4 different segments: GenArt exhibition of generative art featuring work of : ZKM production (Jeffrey Shaw and Michael Gleich) Web-Of-Life, Brian Eno’s Generative paintings and Douglas I. Repetto Disc-o-matic! Reality Check for Cyber Utopias – 2 day conference of 20 internationaly well recognised participants: new media theorist, artists, programmers & activists, from 3 continents. During 4 sessions topics that were covered included the fields of art, economy, geo-poitics and social networks from the critical perspective on internet boom and it’s unrealized utopias TESTTONE – electronic music festival that explored glitch and streaming esthetiques, featuring: Kim Cascone, Jan Jelinek, Emanuel Fract (division of Farmers Manual group), Marko Peljhan and Croatian DJs/performers working under EGOBOO.bits label – Jeanne Freamaux, QWERTY, Blashko, AESQE, Zvuk Broda. Quorum national and translocal meeting of organizers/promoters of new media culture/art who presented their project of interest for wider international community

• Media production for the National Campaign for Youth Multimedia Institute’s media lab has produced website, video, print promo materials and multimedia CD-ROM with educational material. Campaign is also co-developed by members of Multimedia Institute.

• Gay film and video program (24-28.June 2002) Organized in net.culture center “mama” towards the first Croatian Gay Pride as a part of the support program and as introduction to the future regular monthly program entitled Civil Gay It consited of screenings of documentaries, feature movies and promo material of the international projects organized with “Iskorak” and “Kontra” NGOs

• DigiDU (6-9 Jully2002) 3day program on new media culture (presentations, screenings, lectures and performances) produced in Dubrovnik with Art Workshop LAZARETI, including guest participation of: r a d i o q u a l i a – presenting their work and promoting their activities Daniel Fischer – with video motion tracking installation Surveillance Entertainment System Dunja Kukovec – with presentation of SCANLINE digital film and video festival

• OTOKULTIVATOR (July-August 2002) is 10 day summer camp in the Island of Vis, with a school of culture and technology production (including technical, artistic, media design and urbanity courses among others) organized by Multimedia Institute, EASA (international organization of students of architecture) and URK (organization for cultural development). Event is organized with partnership of town Vis and local NGO “UZGON” in ex-military base.

• PXL-FLX (2002-2003) is ongoing project of education and production of net multimedia works (animations, games, artistic websites) which are produced exclusively for digital media and low resolution qualities of the internet. Participants are artists, designers, photographers, musicians and other creative individuals who have showed interest in exploring digital media.

• EGOBOO.bits (2001 >) is the name of the free content digital publishing label that promotes GNU/GPL and publishes on internet and on CDRs some of the most talented Croatian electronic musicians. Thay have also been featured on international compilations of electronic music and have performed in Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Srbia and have participated in several online transcontinental events.
