  • Xbox =/= PC?
    • Xbox lacks some PC interface (keyboard and mouse, PC-like BIOS), has some others in addition (a controller for buttons, LEDs) and differs in implementation in some aspects (kernel in ROM, boot sequence, hard disk partitioning, timer frequency, shutdown, ...). It also has some nasty bugs (reading from nonexistant PCI config addresses, which is done by a nomrl OS to probe what devices are present, freezes the machine). That means that you cannot just insert your RedHat/SuSE/Mandrake/Debian CD-ROM into the Xbox and install Linux.
  • XBOX & FileSystems
    • The Xbox does not use the ISO9660 or UDF filesystem for its game DVD, but a proprietary and very simple one, called XDVDFS, described elsewhere. The Xbox kernel only supports three filesystems: FATX for hard disk partitions, UDF (used on DVD Video) and XDVDFS. It will boot from CDs or DVDs in UDF or XDVDFS format it it contains a valid and signed default.xbe.
